Down East Magazine Reprints My Story

Down East Magazine is considered the gold standard for showcasing our beautiful state of Maine, hands down. So, when they published an essay of mine a few years ago, it was one of the highlights of my life, and it provided a boost of confidence for my burgeoning writing career.

I was thrilled to learn that yesterday they had reprinted my essay in one of their newsletters. It brought back those positive feelings I experienced from the original publication, and it meant that my essay had been memorable enough that they dusted it off and printed it again.

Here is a link to the reprint. Enjoy.

  1. You are very talented; that is why these special things go to you. So proud of you.

Miss seeing & visiting with you. Some day when things settle down.

Love you both, , Gail & Wayne

    1. Gail, thanks for your kind comments. Yes, when this virus is under control would love to get together with you. Love you, Mitch.

  2. Thanks for sending me the reprint from Down East magazine. I recall something similar from your book, but this essay at a bit more feeling and in my view, depth to it.
Thank you for having the energy to continue to post during these stressful times. You are well aware that stress is not a friend to people with MS and personally it slows me down and increases fatigue. I’ve decided to reduce my stress by not listening, listening\watching stressful blogs and TV for all while . I feel better already. I have to remember what Mickey Singer says that the earth has been around for about 13 billion years has got along very well without humans.

    1. Hans, I am blessed with a calm disposition. I rarely feel stressed, for which I am most fortunate. But I like your idea of taking the long view — the events that seem so momentous in our lives are minuscule in the big picture.

  3. Reminds me of a Caskie Stinnet column I so enjoyed reading each month in Downeast magazine years ago now.
His were stories of living on an island, I felt as if I was there smelling the salt air and hearing the calming ocean sounds as I lived in the Midwest.
Now I’m in Massachusetts close to the ocean but you’ve brought me to the piney Maine forests that are a welcome respite in crazy times.
    Thank you, Mitch!

    1. Lois, I’m so glad my essay touched you and brought you to a good place, especially in these turbulent times.

  4. Thoroughly enjoyed your book, very well written. You are a talented writer Mitch, your strength and positivity have been the driving force of your achievements. Continued success and God bless …
